Jhabua District Tragedy: Two Girls Swept Away, Chief Minister Steps In

Two girls were swept away while five family members attempted to cross the overflowing Anaas river via a stop dam near Dhebar village in Jhabua district on Wednesday, according to an official. The body of 16-year-old Kabbu Pargi was found by the rescue team, while the search for 5-year-old Maya Makwana continues, stated Jhabua collector Neha Meena.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has instructed the administration to provide Rs four lakh in assistance and an additional Rs two lakh from the chief minister relief fund to each victim's family, the official mentioned. Furthermore, financial aid of Rs 20,000 each has been approved from the Red Cross, Meena added.

Chief Minister's Response

After attending his father's funeral in Ujjain, Chief Minister Yadav reviewed the rain-affected areas' situation. He spoke with the Jhabua collector over the phone from Ujjain and directed him to ensure financial support for the deceased's families, the official noted. Yadav also assessed conditions in Dhar district, where an Adivasi ashram was flooded due to heavy rains.

The collector informed Yadav that timely intervention had saved children trapped in the ashram with help from social workers and local citizens. The chief minister praised these efforts and announced that the state government would honour and reward those involved for their bravery.

The chief minister's directives aim to provide immediate relief to the affected families and acknowledge the community's role in rescue operations. The ongoing search for Maya Makwana highlights the continued efforts of rescue teams in challenging conditions.
