'Traffic Jam' Video On Mount Everest Goes Viral, Receives Mixed Response From Netizens

When was the last time you got stuck in a 'traffic jam' on the world's tallest mountain? As crazy as it may sound, a video of the same has gone viral showing climbers standing in long queues on Mount Everest. As if experiencing bumper-to-bumper traffic jams everyday on roads wasn't enough, witnessing something like this can be amusing once in a while.

Notably, this unusual video surfaces after two mountaineers are presumed to be dead after going missing on May 21. British climber Daniel Peterson and his Nepali guide Pas Tenji Sherpa slipped and fell down after a huge chunk of glacier dropped from a cliff. Several videos of the 'rush hour' on the world's tallest summit have now gone viral on social media.

Tenji and Peterson were part of a 15-member group that scaled to the top of Mount Everest at 29,032 feet. There whereabouts are yet to be found, according to latest reports.

Indian mountaineer Rajan Dwivedi shot the video while descending down from the top. He said, "Mt. Everest is not a joke and in fact, quite a serious climb. three sections 1) Khumbu Icefalls 2) C3 to C4 and 3) C4 to Summit during the entire night in the death zone in the frigid air! Approx 500 climbers, amateurs and inexperienced ones all over the world attempt it for its glory! Probably 250-300 succeed. I believe so far ~7,000 have summited since 1st ascent in May 1953. Many end up with frost bites, snow blindness and various type of injuries that are not counted in any database. This video captured shows what we face on one rope line and negotiating interchanges during the traffic for upstream and downstream! The main reason is weather window to avoid the fierce cruising jet streams that could be 100-240mph!! For me, coming down was a nightmare and exhausting while huge line of climbers were coming up to maximize on the weather window."

The video has garnered more than 2.9 million views on Instagram. It has evoked mixed reactions from netizens.

One user commented, "People with far to much time and cash they don't know what to do with it."

Meanwhile other said, "Is this the douchebag line?... right this way, sir."

In spite of all this, the popularity of Mount Everest hasn't diminished even a bit among the mountaineering community. This comes after the officials have raised concerns about safety and fatality record of the summit. At least 18 people have lost their lives in last year's spring as per the Himalayan Database. According to New York Times, the climb has claimed lives of at least five people since the beginning of this season.
