Traffic Constable Killed in Delhi-Meerut Expressway Hit-and-Run, Two Arrested

A tragic accident on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway led to the death of Vipin Kumar Singh, a 32-year-old traffic constable. He was hit by a speeding car on Friday evening and, despite medical efforts, succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night. The incident has sparked concerns over road safety on this busy route.

The collision occurred near the exit leading to National Highway 9, where Singh was stationed. Eyewitness footage shows him being thrown into the air and dragged nearly 40 metres by the vehicle. This disturbing video quickly went viral on social media, highlighting road safety issues.

Arrests and Investigation

Deputy Commissioner of Police Dhawal Jaiswal confirmed two arrests related to the case. Vinit Kumar alias Binne, who has a criminal record in Ghaziabad, was driving the car. His brother Sumit, who was with him at the time, has also been detained. Initially charged with attempted murder, the charges have now escalated to murder following Singh's death.

Additional DCP (Traffic) Sacchidanand mentioned that the car involved in the incident has been seized. Authorities are gathering more evidence to strengthen their case against those responsible for this tragic event.

Station House Officer Shashi Chaudhary pointed out that the viral video capturing the moment of impact is crucial evidence. Investigators believe it will help reconstruct events and ensure strict legal action against the accused individuals involved in this incident.

This unfortunate event has raised fresh concerns about reckless driving and poor adherence to traffic rules on busy corridors like the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. Authorities have promised justice for Constable Singh while emphasising stronger enforcement of road safety regulations is necessary.
