Tough time for commuters as BEST buses go off Mumbai roads
Mumbaikars are facing problems commuting on 'Raksha Bandhan' as the local public transport division Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) Workers' Union is on a strike for its various demands, including timely salary payments.
The BEST Workers' Union on Sunday threatened to go on a strike starting midnight of August 6, if the Mumbai Corporation did not render a written acceptance of their demands.
According to one of the commuter,'' I have been travelling by BEST bus for many years, this is very inconveniencing.''
''I stay in Worli and work in Prabhadevi, have been waiting here for 1 hour.Plead govt to resolve the issues&end the strike soon,'' another commuter said.
Meanwhile, the Maharashtra government has asked MSRTC to run buses in the city, allow school buses and private company buses to operate as public transport. Transport department has also appealed to auto and taxi unions to ensure more vehicles are on the road.
