After the repeated defeats at the hands of the BJP in a series of elections and the party's aggressive push to establish footprints in non-BJP ruled states through other means, the Opposition leaders are working around the 'unite or perish' principle.
In the last three years, the Opposition have been jumping from one issue to the other to corner PM Narendra Modi-led NDA - from intolerance to demonetisaion to student protests to attacks on Dalit to cow vigilantism to farmers' issue to Presidential election 2017 and more. But their attempts have only helped BJP gain strength from one election to other.
Besides top Congress leaders, Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee is also likely to attend the meeting along with other senior leaders like Mayawati, Akhilesh Yadav and Sitaram Yechury, sources said.
Apart from the Congress, Left parties, TMC, RJD, JD(U), NCP, JMM, DMK, NC, SP, BSP, RLD, JD-S, Kerala Congress, AIUDF besides some others are slated to participate in the meeting.
The 18 opposition parties had earlier decided to meet once a month to discuss various crucial issues and maintain better coordination among themselves to 'unitedly' take on the government.
