Amritpal visited Georgia for surgery to look like Bhindranwale

Amritpal Singh, the radical Sikh leader, who has been on the run for the past three weeks had visited the United States last year for a surgery in a bid to look like terrorist Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, reports said.

Reports said that Singh is said to have spent two months in Georgia before returning to India in August 2022. He is said to have undergone a cosmetic surgery to look like Bhindranwale, the report also said.

Amritpal Singh is referred to as Bhindranwale 2.0 by his supporters. He is seen donning a white 'chola' and navy blue turban and moves around with armed men just like Bhindranwale.

Singh had recently released a video stating that he was not a fugitive and would soon appear before the world. "Those who feel that I have turned fugitive and have left my associates, should come out of this illusion. I do not fear death," he also said in the video.

The Punjab Police have launched a massive manhunt for Amritpal Singh since the past three weeks. He has been captured on CCTV cameras in which he is seen donning different avatars. There were also reports earlier that he may have tried to flee India and go to Nepal. However in the videos that surfaced later, he made it clear that he was very much in Punjab.

Meanwhile the Punjab Police has called the leave of all cops in the state till April 14 after Amritpal sought a meeting of Sikhs later this month. The Punjab Police is in a state of very alert ahead of this meeting. Reports say that Amritpal is likely to surrender soon, but after holding this meeting. The police want to stall this meeting at any cost as they fear that he may end up becoming a hero if he is arrested post this meeting.

The Akal Takht (the highest temporal seat of Sikhs) Jathedar (high priest) Giani Harpreet Singh has scheduled the 'Gurmat Samagam' on Baisakhi from April 12 to 15 at Takht Damdama Sahib in Talwandi Sabo near Bathinda. This rules out the chances of calling for a Sarbat Khalsa (religious congregation) as demanded by Singh.
