TN: Jaya announces initiatives to strengthen SC, ST school infrastructure
Chennai, Aug 27: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today made a host of announcements aimed at strengthening the infrastructure of Schedule Caste and Tribal schools, amenities for students there and for SC, ST women.
In a suo moto statement in the assembly, she said five Adi Dravidar, tribal residential high schools would be upgraded as higher secondary schools at a cost of Rs.2.54 crore. Similarly, 15 middle schools would be upgraded as high schools at a cost of Rs.2.40 crore.

Also, smart class rooms will be set up in 26 tribal residential high schools at a cost of Rs.1.31 crore. For working Adi Dravidar and tribal women, new hostels would be launched in Chennai, Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur, Coimbatore and Tiruchirappalli Districts in the first phase at a cost of Rs.4.40 crore.
She said 260 steam boilers would be provided to 160 tribal residential schools and 100 Adi Dravidar Welfare schools at a cost of Rs.12.20 Crore.
She also said stainless steel plate and tumbler will be provided to 98,039 students in 1,314 Adi Dravidar Welfare Hostels at a cost of Rs.1.46 crore.
