TN Govt inducts four transgenders into police force
In a first, the Tami Nadu government on Monday gave appointment orders to four transgenders for joining the state police force.
Along with these four, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami also appointment orders to other new recruits selected by the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB).

Speaking at the event, the CM asked the police and other uniformed personnel to be courteous and careful while dealing with citizen's complaints. The Chief Minister stressed that such personnel, including police, should show no "hatred or favour" while discharging their duties.
"You should be courteous, careful, humble and caring while dealing with people's complaints and be honest and unbiased (in approach). These are your foremost duty," he said.

TN government's order
The state police also boasted of being the first one to recruit transgenders, he said pointing out to four members from the community being among the recruits today.
At least 50 transgenders had applied for the 15,000 plus vacancies of police constables, firemen and jail warders for which the Tamil Nadu Uniformed Services Recruitment Board (TNUSRB) conducted a written examination on May 21.

The Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Bill
The Transgender Persons Protection of Rights Bill was passed in April, 2016 and the Supreme Court recognised transgender as the third gender, five years after the electoral commission added the category to ballot forms.
The bill meant the government had to provide transgender people with quotas in jobs and education in line with other minorities, as well as basic amenities.
