TMC Leader Debobrata Mondal and Associate Shot in Howrah, West Bengal

Debobrata Mondal, a TMC gram panchayat member, and his associate were shot in Howrah, West Bengal. Both sustained serious injuries and are currently hospitalised.

A member of the TMC gram panchayat and an associate were seriously injured after being shot by unknown attackers in Howrah, West Bengal, according to a police officer on Friday. Debobrata Mondal, also known as Babu Mondal, was attacked while returning home with Anupam Rana on a motorcycle around 11 pm on Thursday.

As they neared the Nishchinda-Buro Shibtala area under Liluah police station, two assailants on motorcycles approached and fired multiple shots at close range. Mondal was struck in the waist and shoulder, collapsing immediately. Anupam sustained injuries while attempting to fend off the attackers.

Police Investigation Underway

Local residents quickly transported both men to Belur State General Hospital. Mondal was later moved to SSKM Hospital in Kolkata for further treatment, while Anupam remains in critical condition at a private hospital in North Howrah. Police Commissioner Praveen Tripathy visited the scene with a team shortly after the incident.

A case has been filed, and authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to identify the suspects. "Efforts are being made to trace the accused," Tripathy stated. At least five rounds were reportedly fired during the attack, according to police sources.

TMC Leaders Demand Justice

Senior leaders from the Trinamool Congress, including Howrah District Sadar president and MLA Goutam Chowdhury, MLA Kalyan Ghosh, and Domjur Youth Trinamool leader Noorj Molla, visited the hospitals where Mondal and Anupam were admitted. Ghosh expressed uncertainty about the motive behind the attack and called for the swift arrest of those responsible.

Meanwhile, Suman Choudhury, a history-sheeter with past charges of extortion and attempted murder, has become a person of interest in this investigation. The police are actively pursuing leads to solve this case.

Mondal's condition remains critical as he receives medical care in Kolkata. The incident has raised concerns about safety and security in the region, prompting calls for increased vigilance and protection for local leaders.
