Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2025: List Of Top 10 Universities In India And Asia Revealed
The Tims Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings for 2025 were published on April 23, with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bengaluru securing an impressive 4th place in Asia and 1st place in India, according to Free Press Journal. This achievement highlights the institute's strong presence in global education, solidifying its position as a leader in research and academic excellence.
Top Indian Universities In The Asia Rankings

Several other Indian universities also featured prominently in the rankings. Anna University in Chennai secured the 111th spot in Asia, making it the second-highest ranked Indian university. Following Anna University are other top institutions such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore at 131st place, Mahatma Gandhi University at 140th, Shoolini University of Biotechnology and Management Sciences at 146th, and Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences at 149th.

In comparison to last year's rankings, 34 Indian colleges saw a dip in their standing, while 14 universities improved their ranks. Notably, the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, made a rise, climbing within the 201-250 range.
Global Leaders in the Asia Rankings
While Indian institutions made notable progress, China continued to dominate the region's higher education landscape. This year, 25 Chinese institutions reached their highest-ever rankings, with Tsinghua University maintaining its top position in Asia, followed by Peking University in second place. The National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU) continued their strong performances, ranking 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Japan's presence in the top 10 continues to be minimal, with only the University of Tokyo making the list. Other Japanese institutions like Kyoto University and Tohoku University slipped slightly in the rankings.
The Times Higher Education Asia University Rankings 2025 highlight the growing global recognition of Indian universities, particularly IISc Bengaluru. While India has seen some ups and downs in the rankings, the nation's top universities continue to hold their own in a competitive academic environment, with institutions from China and Singapore continuing to lead the way in the region.
