Thrissur priest arrested for death threat against President Kovind

Thrissur, Aug 6: A priest from Thrissur in Kerala has been arrested for allegedly making a death threat against president Ram Nath Kovind who is on a three-day visit to the state.

The arrested has been identified as Jayaraman, a priest of Chirakkal temple in Thrissur. He had called the police control room to issue the threat."President Kovind would be killed," he said.

During interrogation, Jayaraman told the police that he had made the call in an inebriated state.

President Kovind is in Kerala to inaugurate the 'Festival of Democracy' to mark the conclusion of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the Kerala Legislative Assembly on Monday. On Tuesday, the president will inaugurate the centenary celebrations of St Thomas College before returning to Delhi.

Earlier this month, a 22-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly called up the National Security Guard (NSG) control room and warned of a "chemical attack" on prime minister Narendra Modi.
