Three Fatal Leopard Attacks in Udaipur Raise Wildlife Safety Concerns

A tragic incident occurred on Friday when a woman was killed by a leopard in the Gogunda police station area. This marks the third fatal leopard attack within two days in a 5 km radius, officials reported. The victim, Hamari Bhil, aged 50, was working in her field near the forest when the leopard attacked.

Leopard Attacks Claim Three Lives in Udaipur

Hearing her cries for help, nearby workers rushed with axes and sticks. However, by then, the leopard had dragged Hamari into the forest. Witnesses saw her body in the bushes with the leopard nearby. Police noted that this was the third such death in Umaria village of Chhali Panchayat within two days.

Leopard Attacks Raise Concerns

Officials suspect a single leopard is responsible for all three attacks. On Thursday, a minor girl was killed in Undithal village, her body found 4 km inside dense forest. A youth was also attacked and killed in Bhewadiya village, 3 km from Undithal. The youth succumbed to injuries before help arrived.

Villagers expressed their anger by blocking the Gogunda-Jhadol road with stones on Friday. They demanded compensation for the victims' families. Udaipur District Collector Arvind Kumar Poswal stated that additional rescue teams have been deployed to capture the leopard using tranquillizers.

Forest Officer Ajay Chittora confirmed that teams from Udaipur are at the scene. Additional rescue units have been summoned from Jodhpur and Rajsamand districts to assist in capturing the leopard. The pattern of attacks suggests they are likely carried out by one leopard.

Efforts continue to address this serious situation and ensure safety for residents in the affected areas. Authorities are working diligently to capture the leopard and prevent further tragedies.
