Three Dera followers arrested for allegedly plotting Ram Rahim's escape

Last month, self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison by a CBI court in connection with a 15-year-old rape case.

The Haryana Police on Saturday arrested three Dera Sacha Sauda followers for allegedly planning Gurmeet Ram Rahim's escape following his conviction by a CBI court in Panchkula.

Last month, self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim was convicted and sentenced to 20 years in prison by a CBI court in connection with a 15-year-old rape case. Panchkula, where the court pronounced the verdict, witnessed violence following godman's conviction as his supporters went on a rampage.

It was then reported that the Dera followers had gathered in large numbers to facilitate Ram Rahim's escape. Several codes and gestures are said to have been used by Ram Rahim's accomplices inside court premises to convey to the mob of supporters outside that the godman has been convicted.

On Wednesday, the Punjab Police claimed to have arrested eight Dera followers for allegedly attacking a fuel pump in Kotkapura area on August 25 following Ram Rahim's conviction.

The police said the accused who had allegedly attempted to set the petrol pump on fire were identified from the CCTV footage.
