Three Individuals Arrested for Allegedly Recruiting Youths for Russian Military Support Service After Kerala Man's Death

Three individuals were detained on Saturday in connection with the death of a man from Kerala who had joined a military support service in Russia. The police identified the arrested as Sandeep Thomas, Sumesh Antony, and Sibi, all from Thrissur. They are accused of luring young people to Russia with promises of lucrative jobs.

Arrests Made in Kerala Military Recruitment Case

The arrests were made by Wadakkanchery police after thorough questioning. The investigation began following a complaint by Joicy John, wife of the deceased Binil T B, and Kurian, father of Jain T K, who was injured and is receiving treatment in Moscow. The accused face charges under the Emigration Act, human trafficking, and cheating.

Recruitment Promises and Consequences

Binil, aged 32, and Jain, aged 27, both held ITI mechanical diplomas. They traveled to Russia on April 4 with expectations of working as electricians and plumbers. However, upon their arrival, their Indian passports were taken away. They were then sent to a war zone as part of the Russian Military Support Service.

Relatives reported that Binil had informed his family about being assigned to front-line duties in the conflict area. Tragically, news of Binil's death reached his family on January 13. Efforts are ongoing to bring back his remains and assist Jain, who remains stranded in the Russia-Ukraine conflict zone.

Legal Charges and Investigation

The trio's arrest followed detailed interrogations by the police. They have been charged with violations under the Emigration Act along with human trafficking and cheating offenses. These charges stem from their alleged involvement in recruiting individuals under false pretenses.

The case highlights the risks faced by individuals seeking employment abroad through unofficial channels. It underscores the importance of verifying job offers and understanding potential dangers before accepting overseas employment opportunities.

The authorities continue to investigate this case to uncover further details about the recruitment network and its operations. The focus remains on ensuring justice for the victims and preventing similar incidents in the future.
