This village in UP boycotts Independence Day celebration
Residents of Choudhipur village in Mailani area in Lakhimpur Kheri district, some 70 km from Uttar Pradesh will not celebrate Independence Day as they feel no development has happened in their village even 70 years after Independence.

The village area has no electrification and the roads are in a bad condition. The villagers also defecate in open since there are not provided with adequate number of toilets. Most of ther villagers are also dependent on forest for their livelihood.
The village consists of 80 families mostly belonging to backward classes.Since their village very close to the forest, the people living there are in constant terror of attack by wild animals.
Choudhipur was settled way back in 1923. However, it was never included in development programmes by district authorities after Independence. However, villagers said they had received assurances in the past, and no development ever reached them.
