This Is Why Rahul Gandhi Left Wayanad Seat

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday announced that Rahul Gandhi, the winner of two Raebareli and Wayanad seats, will retain the Grand Old Party's decades-long bastion in Uttar Pradesh and will vacate Kerala's Wayanad seat. Congress president also announced that Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will make her electoral debut and contest by-elections from the Wayanad seat.

Addressing the media, Kharge, in Hindi, said, "Rahul Gandhi won from two Lok Saba seats but as per the law, he has to vacate one. Rahul Gandhi will retain Rae Bareli and we have decided that Priyanka ji will fight from Wayanad."

After the decision, Rahul Gandhi said both Rae Bareli and Wayanad "will get two MPs".

"I won't let the people of Wayanad feel Rahul's absence," Priyanka Gandhi said.

Why Rahul Gandhi Left Wayanad seat?

It is said that after Sonia Gandhi decided to move to Rajya Sabha, the Congress party wanted to retain the Raebarli seat which was earlier represented by senior party leaders Feroz Gandhi, Indira Gandhi, and Arun Nehru.

Keeping Raebareli will also strengthen Congress at root level and may power its cadre for next Vidhan Sabha election in Uttar Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi registered massive victories on both seats (Reabareli and Wayanad) and now has handed over the responsibility of Southern Indian to Priyanka Gandhi.

Congress' Rahul Gandhi won the Wayanad seat with a margin of 3,64, 422 votes against CPI's Annie Raja. He secured 6,47,445 votes, while the CPI candidate got 2,83,023 votes.
