This Is What Arvind Kejriwal Did On Independence Day 2024 Which Was Disrespectful For Kailash Gehlot

Delhi Minister and senior leader Kailash Gehlot, who was also in the race for Chief Minister's post, when Arvind Kejriwal resigned, on Sunday decided to leave the party. Kailash Gehlot's move was a big jolt for Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the Delhi Assembly Elections 2024 slated to be held in next 2-3 months.

Soon after Kailash Gehlot decided to leave AAP, the party accused the Centre and its agencies, ED and CBI, of putting pressure on the popular Jaat leader.

But was this the only real reason behind Kailash Gehlot's switch?

According to the experts, when Arvind Kejriwal was in Tihar jail over a liquor scam, faced a dilemma about who would unfurl the flag on Independence Day2024. Kailash Gahlot, then Home Minister of Delhi, was the protocol choice. However, Kejriwal preferred Atishi for this role, despite Gahlot's seniority. This decision sparked tension within the Aam Aadmi Party.

The Lieutenant Governor intervened, restoring Gahlot's right to hoist the flag. A letter from the Delhi Lieutenant Governor's secretary confirmed Gahlot's nomination for the state-level Independence Day celebration at Chhatrasal Stadium. This move countered Kejriwal's attempt to assign the task to Atishi.

Despite protocol dictating that Gahlot should unfurl the flag in Kejriwal's absence, Kejriwal chose Atishi. The decision was controversial as it bypassed established norms. The General Administration Department (GAD) deemed Kejriwal's instruction legally invalid since a jailed Chief Minister cannot delegate such authority.

The Aam Aadmi Party claimed that Kejriwal wanted Atishi to take on this responsibility due to his absence. This message from Kejriwal became a thorn in Kailash Gahlot's side. The administration rejected Kejriwal's instruction, emphasizing that protocol should be followed.

Gahlot's resignation is a significant setback for the Aam Aadmi Party, especially with upcoming Delhi assembly elections. His departure weakens the party's position in the capital, where he has substantial influence. The party is already reeling from a poor performance in Haryana elections.

Kejriwal's preference for Atishi over Gahlot extended beyond flag-hoisting duties. When considering a replacement for Chief Minister, Atishi again received his support. This pattern indicates a shift in internal party dynamics and priorities.

Gopal Rai, then General Administration Minister, had directed arrangements for Atishi to hoist the flag as per Kejriwal's wish. However, this directive was overturned by legal constraints and intervention from higher authorities.

The script for Gahlot's departure was set as early as August 15th when Arvind Kejriwal initiated changes within the party. Gahlot held key portfolios like Home, Administrative Reforms, and Transport in Delhi government before deciding to leave.

The Aam Aadmi Party faces challenges in maintaining its influence and cohesion amid these internal changes and external electoral pressures. The dynamics within the party are shifting as it navigates these turbulent times.
