PNB Scam: Silence of Modi says a lot, says Congress Leader Randeep Surjewala

Hitting out at PM Modi and NDA government over Nirav Modi's 11,000 crore bank scam Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that this is the biggest bank scam since Independence.

Addressing a press conference, Surjewala said,''We want to issue a lookout notice against the following people so that these people can't leave the country. There was no risk-management system within the bank.''

Raising several questions, Surjewala said,''42 FIRs were filed against these companies. Who is responsible for Nirav Modi leaving the country?. A person in a high power was supporting Nirav Modi This is classic BJP of diverting the truth. Silence of Modi says a lot.''

In a big jolt to the Indian banking sector, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) received two complaints from Punjab National Bank (PNB) against Nirav Modi, alleging fraudulent transactions to the tune of Rs 11,292 crore. These two complaints come just a few weeks after an alleged fraud of Rs 280 crore was reported against Modi and others in January. The CBI had registered an FIR in the case on 31 January.

The shares of the bank tumbled more than 8 percent after the fraud came to light, a PTI report said. In afternoon trades, PNB shares were trading at Rs 148, down by 14 points or 8.5 percent.
