Third Scorpene class submarine INS Karanj to be launched
The third Scorpene class submarine INS Karanj to be launched at Mazagon Dock on Wednesday. Navy Chief Sunil Lanba will be present.
The first Scorpene-class submarine INS Kalvari, a diesel-electric attack submarine was commissioned on December 14, 2017, by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Mumbai.
The second Scorpene-class submarine - Khanderi - was launched on January 12, 2017, and is expected to be commissioned later this year.
The Scorpene submarine is designed to operate in all theatres, including the tropics. All means and communications are provided to ensure interoperability with other components of a naval task force.
