Labubu dolls originate from a character in "The Monsters," a book series by Hong Kong-born artist Kasing Lung. These plush toys and figurines draw inspiration from Nordic fairy tales. Their popularity skyrocketed when Lisa from Blackpink was spotted with one, sparking interest among celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Rihanna, and Dua Lipa.

Initially priced at Rs 7,400 ($85) during its release in 2023, this particular Labubu doll's value soared as its trend gained momentum online. The resale price now stands at 125 times its original cost. Pop Mart typically sells these dolls for Rs 1,744 ($20) to Rs 3,488 ($40) in blind boxes, where buyers discover their purchase only upon opening.

The immense popularity of these dolls has significantly impacted Pop Mart CEO Wang Ning's fortunes. He is now the 10th richest individual in China and the youngest among the country's wealthiest people. This elite group includes notable figures like TikTok founder Zhang Yiming and Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun.
