The Battle For Delhi: TDP And JDU's Demands May Hold The Key For Next Government
The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by N Chandrababu Naidu, may emerge as a kingmaker in the formation of the next government in India. With the BJP failing to secure a majority on its own, the TDP is seeking a significant role in the government, including the Speaker's post, health, rural development, transport, and possibly agriculture, Jal Shakti, IT, and finance portfolios. The party is pushing for 5-6 portfolios in total.
The TDP and its ally, the JDU, together hold 28 seats in the Lok Sabha, making them crucial to the BJP's efforts to form a government. The BJP's alliance with other parties, including the LJP and Sena, gives them a total of 240 seats, short of the majority mark. As a result, the BJP will need to rely on one of these allies to govern.

The JDU has refused to make any demands or conditions for its support, with its leader KC Tyagi stating that Nitish Kumar will remain committed to the NDA alliance. However, Tyagi did mention that special status for Bihar has been a long-standing demand for the JDU.
Meanwhile, Congress has been reaching out to the TDP to remind them of their special status demand for Andhra Pradesh.
In related news, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to take oath on June 8, along with the new cabinet of Union Ministers. The 17th Lok Sabha cabinet has also recommended its dissolution today.
