Centre Unveils Special Session Agenda: Pending Bills, Recall of ’75 years of Parliamentary Journey’

The government on Wednesday listed a special discussion on Parliament's journey of 75 years starting from the Samvidhan Sabha on the first day of the five-day session of Parliament beginning September 18.

"Members are informed that on Monday, the 18th September, 2023, besides other formal business like laying of papers etc., a Discussion will be held on the subject "Parliamentary Journey of 75 years starting from Samvidhan Sabha - Achievements, Experiences, Memories and Learnings"," the bulletin said.

The bulletin also outlined the prospective legislative agenda for the upcoming parliamentary session. This agenda includes deliberation and approval of bills such as The Advocates (Amendment) Bill, 2023, The Press and Registration of Periodicals Bill, 2023, The Post Office Bill, 2023, and The Chief Election Commissioner and other Election Commissioners (Appointment, Conditions of Service, and Term of Office) Bill, 2023.

However, it is not an exhaustive list of government legislative business, the Centre clarified. The session is likely to see the proceedings of Parliament moving from the old building to the new Parliament building.

Earlier in the day, a meeting of the floor leaders of all political parties has been convened on September 17, a day before the start of a five-day Parliament session, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi said on Wednesday.

The invitation for the meeting has been sent to all concerned leaders through e-mail, Joshi posted on social media platform X.

On August 31, Joshi had announced a "special session" of Parliament for five days from September 18, but did not spell out any specific agenda for it.

It is also expected that the Parliament proceedings will move from the old building to the new one during this session.
