However, his mother thanks, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi for his constant effort for the past five years which made Aman (name changed) fulfill his dream.

Aman, who was in Class 12 when his sister was killed was keen on joining the military but the brutal crime against his sister sent him into shock.

It was Rahul Gandhi then who counselled him and motivated Aman to achieve something good in life to support the family.

India Today quoted Asha Devi as saying,''After learning that he wanted to join the defence forces, Rahul asked him to pursue a pilot's training course after completion of school.''

After the completion of his class 12th exam, Aman got admission at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi in Rae Bareli, the Congress leader's parliamentary constituency.

During his 18-month pilot's training course, Aman used to get regular updates about the legal proceedings against the accused.

Aman is now undergoing final training with a commercial airline in Gurugram. He will soon fly a plane. Asha said even Rahul's sister Priyanka calls them over the phone. Their father is a permanent employee at Delhi Airport and has a desk job.

On December 16 2012, the physiotherapy student and her friend climbed onto a bus in south Delhi, assured by the driver that they would be dropped off at their destination. The woman was gang-raped by six men for hours, brutalised with an iron rod and her intestines were pulled out. She died in a Singapore hospital 13 days later, leaving millions in shock.

All the accused were arrested and charged with sexual assault and murder. One of the accused died in police custody. The four remaining adult defendants were found guilty of rape and murder and sentenced to death.
