Thanks to Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, this J&K widow has a roof over her head after 10 years
J&K's Udhampur resident Zareena Bibi, who was living in a tent since 10-12 years, now has a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna.
Srinagar, May 25: It was for almost 10-12 years, Zareena Bibi, a widow in Jammu and Kashmir's Udhampur, stayed in a tent with her four children after the death of her husband.
Life in a tent was very difficult for Zareena and her children. But the poor family had no other option but continued to live their lives amid all the hardships. Finally, things have changed for them and that too for better.

Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna, a government-run housing scheme for urban poor, Zareena has got a house for her family recently. "Udhampur resident Zareena Bibi, who was living in a tent since 10-12 years, now has a house under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna," reported ANI.
"I thank the government for giving me a roof over my head," a visibly happy-looking Zareena told ANI. Her neighbours too are happy for the family. "We are happy for her. After her husband's death she was living in a tent with her children," said her well-wishers.
Along with Zareena, 290 poor, homeless families in Udhampur have got homes under the government scheme.
"I was living with my four kids in tents for 10-12 years. Before that I was living in a temporary house, which got damaged in a mudslide. I always dreamt of having my own house. However, there was no scope since my husband is dead and I am very poor," Zareena told ANI.
"I work as a domestic help and even sometimes beg to earn my livelihood. I want to thank Prime Minister Narendra Modi for giving us a home. Now, my children can study peacefully without having any fear of bad weather," she added.
Block development officer of Udhampur, Rupali Vaid, told ANI that they have achieved maximum target of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna. "We have achieved maximum target. PM Modi is self-monitoring the scheme," Vaid added.
