A four-storey residential building declared dangerous by civic authorities collapsed in Dombivali East, Maharashtra's Thane district. Two men lost their lives while a woman was rescued alive. Rescue operations are ongoing as one more person is believed to be trapped.
The collapse of a four-storey residential building in Dombivali East, Thane district, Maharashtra on Friday has resulted in the tragic death of two men and the rescue of a woman from the debris. The building was reportedly dilapidated and had been declared dangerous by civic authorities prior to its collapse.
Building Collapse Tragedy

The collapsed structure, known as Adinarayan Bhuvan, is located at Ayre village within the Kalyan Dombivali Municipal Corporation limits. It housed 44 tenements and evacuation procedures had commenced since Thursday when some part of the structure began sinking. Despite these efforts, tragedy struck around 5:40 pm on Friday when the building came down.
Rescue Operations Underway
Search and rescue teams were immediately deployed to sift through the rubble. By 8pm, they had recovered the body of Sunil Birja Lodaya (55). About an hour later, Deepti Sunil Lodaya (54) was found alive amidst the debris and promptly rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. This information was relayed by Yasin Tadvi who heads up TMC's disaster management cell.
In addition to these casualties, another body belonging to Arvind Bhatkar (70) was also discovered in the wreckage later that evening. Rescue operations are still ongoing with fears that one more person may be trapped under what remains of Adinarayan Bhuvan.
Civic Authorities' Response
KDMC chief Bhausaheb Dangde confirmed that while most occupants have been evacuated successfully from this fifty-year-old building before it collapsed; two persons believed to be unwell could potentially still be trapped beneath debris. He reassured citizens that all measures are being taken to ensure their safe retrieval.
This incident is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by aging and dilapidated structures, particularly in areas with high population densities. Civic authorities had previously declared Adinarayan Bhuvan as dangerous, highlighting the urgent need for regular building inspections and timely evacuations to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
Conclusion
The unfortunate collapse of Adinarayan Bhuvan underscores the importance of stringent building safety regulations and proactive measures by civic bodies. It also brings into focus the necessity for residents to heed evacuation orders when buildings are deemed unsafe. As rescue operations continue into the night, our thoughts go out to all those affected by this devastating event.
