One Air Force Soldier Killed, 4 Injured After Terrorists Target Security Vehicles In J&K's Poonch

One soldier was killed and five were injured in J&K's Poonch on Saturday when terrorists fired upon their security vehicles. The attack took place in the Sanai village of Surankote, prompting swift deployment of reinforcements from the Army and police. A gunfight ensued near a government higher secondary school in Gursai Moori of Medhat sub-division in Poonch.

The injured soldiers were rushed to Udhampur Command Hospital, where one of them succumbed to his injuries.

"In the Poonch district of J&K, near Shahsitar, militants attacked an Indian Air Force vehicle convoy. Cordon and search operations are currently underway in the area by local military units. The convoy has been secured, and further investigation is in progress," stated the IAF.

The terrorists, armed with AK assault rifles, targeted one of the trucks in the convoy, causing significant damage. They are believed to have fled into nearby forests following the attack.

The local Rashtriya Rifles unit has initiated cordon and search operations in the area, with the vehicles now secured inside the air base near Shahsitar.

Poonch, a part of the Anantnag-Rajouri-Poonch Lok Sabha constituency, has had its polling rescheduled by the EC to May 25.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a search operation after receiving information about suspicious movement of two individuals on Friday.

In a separate incident earlier, Border Security Force (BSF) personnel in the Samba sector were put on high alert after thwarting a potential infiltration attempt along the International Border in Samba district.

The intruder was neutralized by the forces while attempting to approach the BSF fences on the international border in the early hours of Wednesday.

"The vigilant BSF troops observed a suspicious movement across the IB in the Samba border area on the intervening night of May 1 and 2, 2024, and an intruder was observed approaching towards the BSF fence. The alert troops neutralized one intruder and thwarted the infiltration attempt," stated the Border Security Forces in an official release.
