According to initial reports, one or two rounds were fired at a 9 JAK vehicle while it was patrolling the area.

There were no immediate reports of casualties in the brief exchange of fire near Phall village in the Sunderbani sector, officials stated.

They further noted that the terrorists, suspected to be hiding in a forest, fired a few rounds at the passing army vehicle. The area is known as a traditional infiltration route for militants.

The troops returned fire, and reinforcements were swiftly deployed to neutralise the assailants, the officials added.

The army has since launched a cordon and search operation in the region.
