Terrorism in India: All illegal Madrasas come under IB scanner

The Home Ministry has sought a report on all illegal Madrasas in the country from the Intelligence Bureau (IB) in a bid to keep a tab on their activities. In the recent past several Madrasas have come under the scanner and it has been found that they are being used to breed terrorists and the Burdwan episode was one such example of the same. A Madrasa is termed as illegal when it has been set up without the permission of the state government. This would mean that the same is being run without the funds of the state government and this indicates that they are undertaking activities behind the back of the establishment.

Illegal Madrasas run on foreign funds:

An Intelligence Bureau report to the Home Ministry which was issued a few months back suggests that several Madrasas which are illegal in nature are being run on foreign funds. [Shocking: SSB constable's alleged link with Burdwan blast accused exposed]

The report also states that in the past couple of years several radical elements from different nations had come down to India and preached at these Madrasas and had made them virtual terror camps.

The Home Ministry has sought this report in the wake of Home Minister Rajnath Singh stating that the government is taking all measures to prevent the radicalization of the youth.

Modern education is imparted in these Madrasas:

In a bid to achieve this the Home Ministry apart from conducting a nation wide survey will also ensure that modern education is imparted in these Madrasas.

It has been found in the investigations into the Burdhwan blast that several Madrasas in West Bengal were operating illegally and this had helped terror outfits set up a base very easily.

The Home Ministry proposes to ensure that all the Madrasas are covered under this survey and in the next couple of months ensure that the illegal ones are shut down and there is a tab on the activities of anti social elements who are using education as a means to spread their terror tentacles.
