Tell us in 6 weeks how to control cow vigilante groups: SC to Centre

The Centre on Friday told the Supreme Court that it does not support vigilantism in the name of cow protection. While stating that it condemns any form of violence, the Centre said that law and order is a state subject.

The court directed the Centre to file an affidavit in four while asking it to explain what it proposes to do to control the menace of cow vigilantism. The court also directed states which are before the SC also to file an affidavit in this regard.

The court is hearing a matter seeking a ban on cow vigilante groups across the nation. The petitioner had alleged that these groups have unleashed terror on the minority and Dalit communities.
