Naroda Patiya case: Tell us extent of burn injuries, SC to Kodnani

New Delhi, Feb 17: The

on Monday once again asked former

minister and convict in Naroda Patiya massacre case

to tell it the extent of burn injuries suffered by her.

While asking Kodnani to file an affidavit stating the degree of burn injuries suffered by after she fell on a lamp, the apex court bench of Justice H.L. Dattu and Justice S.A. Bobde extended her interim bail till Feb 24, 2014.

Refusing to accept the medical certificate by treating doctors which said not to be used in the court proceedings, the court told senior counsel Ram Jethmalani that the certificate says that it was not for the court purpose, then how could it be placed before it.

"Would you like to file an affidavit what is the percentage of the burn injuries suffered by her or we should ask the state government to file an affidavit after consulting the doctors," the court asked Jethmalani.

Kodnani was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment following her conviction.

Justice Dattu said: "We have seen the photographs and we are not impressed by the photographs and the submissions."

Telling Jethmalani not to ask it to do something that is not permissible, the court said that it was persuaded to grant time as it was told that she has suffered serious burn injuries and such a patient can't take care of herself.

"Why", the court asked as Jethmalani told the court that doctors were afraid of coming to court and directed the senior counsel to place before it burn injuries certificate from the competent doctor and till then interim bail is extended.

The court directed the listing of the matter Feb 24, 2014.

Kodnani was sentenced to 28 years imprisonment following her conviction in Naroda Patiya massacre during 2002 Gujarat riots.
