Telangana: 12 Killed, 22 Injured in Major Chemical Factory Blast; PM Modi Offers Condolences

At least 12 were killed and about 22 others suffered injuries in a suspected explosion in a pharma plant in this district on Monday, police said.

Several workers are feared trapped at the accident site in the Sigachi pharma company at the Pashamylaram industrial estate and efforts were on to rescue them, official sources said. The injured people were shifted to hospitals and their condition was not known immediately, as the rescue operation was still in progress. Fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire. Asked if it was an explosion, a police official said it "looks like" one.

Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed anguish over the incident and directed officials to take all steps to save the trapped workers and provide them advanced medical care, an official release said. Sigachi Industries Limited is a pharmaceutical industry dedicated to pioneering advancements in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), Intermediates, Excipients, vitamin-mineral blends, and Operations and Management (O&M) services, according to the company's website.

PM Modi Offers Condolences, Announces Ex-Gratia for Telangana Factory Fire Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragic loss of lives in the factory fire incident in Sangareddy, Telangana. Extending his condolences to the bereaved families, he wished a speedy recovery for those injured.

In a post shared by the Prime Minister's Office on X (formerly Twitter), PM Modi said, "Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon."

He also announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF), stating that an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh would be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 would be given to each of the injured.
