Telangana Governor Authorises Investigation into Alleged Irregularities in Formula E Race Involving K T Rama Rao

Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma has approved legal proceedings against BRS working president and MLA K T Rama Rao. This decision relates to alleged irregularities during the previous BRS regime concerning the Formula-E race in Hyderabad, according to official sources. The state cabinet discussed this issue on Monday evening, indicating that the law will proceed accordingly.

Investigation Approved for Formula E Race Issues

Earlier in November, the Telangana government sought the governor's permission to file an FIR against Rama Rao for these alleged irregularities. The Municipal Administration department had reportedly requested the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to investigate the matter. The ACB is now expected to conduct a thorough investigation following the governor's approval.

Formula-E Race Controversy

The controversy stems from an agreement related to the Formula-E race, which was reportedly made without proper authorisation. A senior bureaucrat was asked for an explanation regarding this agreement and a payment of Rs 55 crore. Rama Rao, who served as the Municipal Administration minister during the previous BRS regime, played a key role in organising last year's race in Hyderabad.

The Formula-E race was initially scheduled for February this year but was cancelled after the Congress government took office in December 2023. Despite these developments, Rama Rao has expressed his willingness to cooperate with any inquiry. On November 7, he stated he had no objections if the governor permitted prosecution.

Rama Rao's Response

Rama Rao emphasised his readiness to face any investigation, saying, "It is the governor's discretion. I have no objection if the governor gives permission for prosecution. We welcome it. We are ready for any inquiry." He reiterated his commitment to transparency and accountability in this matter.

As Municipal Administration minister during the BRS government, Rama Rao aimed to position Hyderabad as India's mobility capital. His vision included promoting electric vehicle manufacturing, innovation, research, and racing. Despite current challenges, he remains committed to these goals.

The unfolding situation highlights significant political and administrative challenges in Telangana. As investigations proceed, further developments are anticipated in this high-profile case involving prominent figures and substantial financial implications.
