In a significant move to ensure the well-being of gig workers in Telangana, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced a slew of social security measures, including accident insurance and health coverage.
Accident Insurance and Health Cover
The state government will provide Rs 5 lakh accident insurance to gig workers involved in food delivery, driving cabs, and auto-rickshaws. Additionally, they will be entitled to Rs 10 lakh health cover under the Rajiv Arogyasri scheme.
Policy Decision for Social Security
Recognizing the need for social security for workers in the unorganized sectors, the chief minister assured that the state government will make a policy decision in this direction. A comprehensive policy will be introduced to safeguard the rights and welfare of gig workers.
Studying Rajasthan's Policy
To ensure an effective implementation of the social security measures, the state government will study the existing policy for gig workers in Rajasthan. This will enable Telangana to learn from best practices and develop a robust framework that meets the specific needs of its gig workers.
Financial Assistance to Deceased Food Delivery Executive's Family
In a compassionate gesture, the chief minister announced Rs 2 lakh financial assistance to the family of a food delivery executive who tragically lost his life after falling from a building four months ago.
Application Submission Process
To facilitate the implementation of these measures, cab and auto-rickshaw drivers, as well as food delivery executives, are advised to submit their applications either online or physically in the Grama Sabhas organized from December 28 to January 6.
The Telangana government's initiative to provide social security to gig workers is a commendable step towards ensuring their welfare and recognizing their valuable contributions to the state's economy. These measures will undoubtedly bring much-needed relief and support to thousands of hardworking individuals in the unorganized sectors.
