A teenager has been detained by Uttarakhand Police for allegedly impersonating Union Minister Amit Shah's son to extort Rs 5 lakh from BJP MLA Adesh Chauhan of Haridwar's Ranipur. The police revealed that two others were involved, with one already in custody and the other still at large.

Police Investigation and Arrests
Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police Pramod Singh Dobal stated that Priyanshu Pant, aged 19, was apprehended in Delhi on Monday evening. He was accused of calling the MLA to demand money. Uvesh Ahmed, another suspect, was arrested in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district. The third accomplice, Gaurav Nath, is currently being sought by authorities.The trio also targeted two other MLAs from Uttarakhand, Nainital MLA Sarita Arya and Rudrapur MLA Shiv Arora. They promised ministerial positions in exchange for money. Cases have been filed in Nainital and Rudrapur regarding these incidents.
Modus Operandi of the Accused
The suspects aimed for a lavish lifestyle by contacting MLAs and demanding funds. On Sunday evening, MLA Adesh Chauhan received a call from an unknown number. The caller claimed to be Jay Shah, son of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a Rs 5 lakh donation to the party fund.Chauhan grew suspicious when the caller used inappropriate language and threatened to defame him on social media if he refused to pay. Consequently, Romish Kumar, Chauhan's public relations officer, filed a complaint at Bahadarabad police station.
Tracking and Confession
Police teams were formed to solve the case by tracking mobile phone CDRs, IMEI numbers, and locations. After conducting raids in Ghaziabad and Delhi, Pant was arrested with the mobile phone used in the crime.Pant admitted that he and his associates, Uvesh Ahmed and Gaurav Nath, devised the plan to extort money from MLAs to fund their luxurious lifestyle. The police continue their search for Nath while further investigating the case.The arrests highlight the lengths some individuals will go to achieve wealth through deceitful means. Authorities remain vigilant in pursuing justice for those targeted by such schemes.
