Fresh from a massive victory in Nandyal assembly bypolls, Chandrababu Naidu's Telugu Desam Party is hoping to secure a berth or two in the union cabinet reshuffle. Names of two TDP leaders are doing the rounds to be inducted as minister and minister of state in the Narendra Modi cabinet.

Having proved its mettle in the bypoll, TDP has won itself more respect in the NDA and now hopes to follow it up with space in the cabinet. While no official word has come in either from the TDP or the BJP, two TDP leaders Rajya Sabha MP CM Ramesh and Thota Narasimhan, a prominent Kapu leader from Kakinada are expected to make the cut. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is personally batting for CM Ramesh to be inducted as a minister in the Modi cabinet.

Talking to OneIndia, Ramesh said that no such information had come his way but added that TDP was looking at securing cabinet berths. "Every ally partner wishes to have more seats in the government but we have to assess the possibilities practically. We need to assess our performance and winning capabilities in comparison to the previous time. In Andhra Pradesh, it makes no difference if the BJP wins or the TDP does. We are in an alliance and we should not give scope to other parties," MP CM Ramesh said.

He added that the TDP's winning streak in Andhra Pradesh had a lot to do with what the government is doing for the people as well as the attitude of the opposition party. "There are multiple issues working in our favour. Our welfare schemes, administration and development have struck a chord with the people. At the same time, there is no confidence in the opposition party leader (Jagan Mohan Reddy), his behaviour, attitude and history of corruption cases. He is attending courts every week. People have chosen the better person in Chandrababu Naidu," he said.

Sources from the party indicated that they are looking at one Minister and one MoS positions in the Narendra Modi cabinet. When Lok Sabha elections will be held in 2019, Andhra Pradesh will go to assembly elections as well. The induction of leaders from the south will work in favour of the BJP's southward drive. The BJP too is open to including more leaders of the party from states like Karnataka while depending on ally partners in Andhra Pradesh.
