A taxi driver, aged 40, was fatally stabbed by a man under the influence following a dispute over the route in Delhi's Rohini area, according to police on Saturday. The victim, Israfil, suffered multiple stab wounds. The accused, Rohit, aged 23, has been apprehended in connection with the incident.

Taxi Driver Stabbed to Death in Delhi

On May 15, authorities were alerted to a car with bloodstains found abandoned near an agricultural field in Savda village. Upon arrival, police discovered the bloodied vehicle with a Haryana registration number and a male body approximately 50 metres away in the fields, stated Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohini Amit Goel.

Investigation and Arrest

The body was identified as Israfil, who worked as a taxi driver. His family informed the police that he had accepted a booking from Inderlok Metro station around 11 p.m. the previous night. Based on details from the app-based taxi booking, police traced a suspect named Rohit from Jhajjar district in Haryana. He was taken into custody and confessed to the crime during interrogation.

Rohit admitted to booking Israfil's cab from Inderlok Metro station to Nizampur village in Haryana. During the journey, an argument over the route ensued, leading Rohit to attack Israfil with a knife while intoxicated. After stabbing him, Rohit dragged Israfil's body out of the car and left it in the fields before fleeing.

Ongoing Investigation

The police have recovered the vehicle and are investigating whether the murder was premeditated or resulted solely from the altercation. The weapon used in the crime has not yet been found, according to officials.

Israfil's body had several sharp cut wounds on his forehead and hands, along with a deep stab injury on his back. A case under relevant sections of the BNS has been registered at Kanjhawala Police Station.

This tragic incident highlights concerns over safety for taxi drivers and passengers alike. Authorities continue their investigation to uncover further details surrounding this case.
