V K Singh
New Delhi, Nov 1: Minister of state for external affairs V K Singh on Friday said that the Tawang area of Arunachal Pradesh, which is close to the China border may soon have a new airport. This, while another airport at Pashighat in Arunachal Pradesh was underway.

However, showing concern over the availability of land there, Singh said,"The land acquisition problem for the airport in Itanagar, Arunachal's capital, has just been sorted out."

He further adds that the government planned to create a separate company in collaboration with the Indian Airlines to operate small aircrafts in the northeast.

Speaking of the development model in the Northeast, Singh further said that railways are being planned in the area, especially connecting the remote areas. The railway budget for the region has been increased by 58%. He also discussed about the threats that Chinese dams cause, leading to flash floods on the India side.

He said," In the early 1950s, a major earthquake took place and changed the course of Brahmaputra. The river bed also went up. We have to see how much water comes from China, and how much is contributed by its different tributaries like the Lohit."
