Tarun Gogoi stops power dept from hiking charges
Guwahati, Nov 26: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Wednesday withdrew the proposed power tariff hike with effect from December 1, announced recently by the Assam Electricity Regulatory Commission (AERC).
According to an official release, Gogoi directed the power department not to go for tariff hike with a view to provide relief to consumers.

"Gogoi also asked the finance department to initiate necessary steps for providing subsidy to the Assam Power Distribution Company Limited in view of the decision not to hike power tariff," it added.
On November 21, AERC had announced to hike the power tariff between 7 per cent to 18 per cent for different categories with effect from next month.
