TN govt hospital RMO attempts suicide due to 'work pressure'
Tiruchirappalli (TN), Apr 6: The resident medical officer of a state-run hospital here today allegedly attempted suicide as he was unable to cope with work pressure, police said.
According to the police, Dr Nehru, RMO of the Mahatma Gandhi Government Hospital, was found unconscious in his quarters and was rushed to the hospital where he was found to have taken an overdose of sleeping pills. The incident, coming close on the heels of an agriculture department official ending his life in Tirunelveli District due to alleged pressure from politicians, caused a flutter.
The doctor did not like the RMO posting and could not bear the workload, his family members said. He was anguished for the past one week due to "phone calls from politicians", they alleged. Besides, a series of medical camps also burdened him. Further investigation was on, police said.
