Tamil Nadu Bus Accident: 10 Dead, 20 Hurt in Passenger Bus Collision

Tragedy struck near Kummangudi in Tamil Nadu's Sivaganga district on Sunday evening when two state government buses collided head-on. Police reports confirm at least 10 fatalities and 20 injuries. The crash occurred roughly five kilometres from Pillaiyarpatti in the Tirupattur area.

One of the buses was en route from Tiruppur to Karaikudi, while the other was travelling from Karaikudi towards Dindigul district. Visuals from the scene depicted severe damage, particularly to the driver's side of one bus. Videos showed bodies lined up on the ground, a woman leaping from the bus, and another sitting with blood on her forehead.

Emergency Response and Rescue Efforts

Emergency services swiftly transported the injured to nearby hospitals. Officials are still gathering information on the crash's cause and the current conditions of those hospitalised. Rescue operations saw public and passenger involvement, aiding in extracting victims from the wrecked buses.

"At least 10 were killed and 20 passengers suffered injuries," a police officer at the site informed NDTV. This tragic incident highlights ongoing safety concerns on Tamil Nadu's roads, particularly involving public transport vehicles.

Previous Incidents and Safety Concerns

This collision follows another serious accident involving buses in Tamil Nadu. The previous week in Tenkasi district, six individuals lost their lives when two private buses collided. Reckless driving was cited as a potential factor in that incident, raising questions about driving practices and road safety enforcement.
