Tabla maestro Shankar Ghosh hospitalised

Kolkata, Dec 14: Eminent tabla player Pandit Shankar Ghosh is lying in a serious condition at a hospital following heart ailments.

"He is in the ICU of a private hospital in Kolkata. Doctors have said that he is in a serious condition now," his son and percussionist Bickram Ghosh told PTI.

Admitted two days ago, doctors have already done his angioplasty and are constantly monitoring his health, he said.

The 80-year-old is amongst the most well-known tabla maestro in the country and was also awarded the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in the year 2000.

Following the Farukhabad gharana of Hindustani classical music, Ghosh has also taught a large number of students in tabla not only in Kolkata but also in Europe.
