Autopsy Report: Swiss Woman Found Dead in West Delhi Died Due to Suffocation

The initial autopsy report of the Swiss woman whose decomposed body was found in West Delhis Tilak Nagar has suggested that she died due to suffocation, police said on Monday.

New Delhi witnessed a gruesome incident, as the decomposed body of a Swiss woman was discovered in West Delhi's Tilak Nagar. The initial autopsy report suggested that the cause of death was suffocation. This shocking revelation came to light on October 30th, following an intensive investigation by the local police.

autopsy report

The deceased has been identified as Nina Berger, approximately 30 years old. Her body was found near a municipal school wall on October 20th with her limbs tied up using metal chains and locks. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vichitra Veer confirmed that fingerprints from the scene matched those of Berger’s records obtained through official channels from Switzerland's embassy.

"We had communicated with the Embassy of Switzerland and managed to get Nina Berger's fingerprint through official channels," Veer explained. "The match has been successful, confirming the identity of the deceased as Nina Berger."

Suspect Apprehended

The prime suspect in this case is Gurpreet Singh who had allegedly locked Ms.Berger inside a Santro car on the day she died. Initially, authorities wanted Berger's family to travel from Switzerland to identify her remains but due to fingerprint confirmation it wasn't necessary.

A senior officer from Delhi Police revealed that they strongly believe Ms.Berger was suffocated to death inside that car by Singh who is currently under arrest for murder charges. However, he added that they are awaiting final autopsy results which are expected soon.

Interrogation Challenges

Singh’s interrogation has proven challenging for investigators as he continually changes his statements and refuses cooperation. He initially claimed responsibility for strangling Ms.Berger before chaining her body and hiding it in his car.

In order to extract more information about this horrific crime, Singh’s police custody was extended by five more days on Monday, as confirmed by the Delhi Police officer.

Post-Mortem and Cremation

A post-mortem examination of Berger's body was conducted at Deen Dayal Upadhyay (DDU) Hospital after receiving a No-Objection Certificate from the Swiss embassy. The autopsy was performed by a panel of three doctors.

The police informed that Berger's body has been cremated and her ashes were handed over to the Swiss embassy so they could be transported back to her family in Zurich.

This tragic incident has left everyone shocked and heartbroken. It also raises serious concerns about safety, especially for foreigners visiting India. As this investigation continues, we hope that justice will be served swiftly for Nina Berger.
