Suspended TMCP Leader Rajanya Haldar Alleges Widespread Misogyny Among Student Leaders
Rajanya Haldar, a suspended leader of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), has raised concerns about misogynistic attitudes among student leaders. The TMCP is affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress. Haldar recently appeared on TV talk shows to condemn the gangrape of a first-year law student by an alumnus and two other students, asserting her right to speak out against issues within her party.

Haldar, previously the TMCP president at Jadavpur University, was suspended in October last year. Her suspension followed a social media post about a short film she starred in, which depicted violence against women. This film drew parallels to the rape-murder of a medical student at R G Kar Hospital in August last year, sparking controversy.
Allegations of Misconduct
On Friday, Haldar accused certain student leaders of sharing indecent AI-generated images of her. "There are many other Monojit Mishras," she said, referring to the prime suspect in the law college incident. She claimed these individuals use such tactics to blackmail female union members by offering them desirable positions within the student union.
The TMCP responded by stating that Haldar had not previously reported such experiences to the party's leadership. They assured that action would be taken if she provided concrete evidence. Haldar mentioned informing senior party members about intimidation by some student leaders, who tarnish the party's reputation and overshadow Mamata Banerjee's government's achievements.
Party's Response
Trinankur Bhattacharya, TMCP state President, stated that Haldar had not raised these issues with him before. He assured that if any allegations are brought forward and proven through an internal investigation, appropriate action will be taken. "She had never brought up the issue with me in the past," he noted.
Senior minister and TMC leader Firhad Hakim commented on the situation, saying he was unaware of who was making these statements. He emphasized that both the government and party remain vigilant against any misconduct and take strict action against offenders. "We have zero tolerance to crimes against women," Hakim affirmed.
Haldar highlighted that misogynistic attitudes are not confined to any single party but can exist across political lines. She stressed that these individuals undermine women's merit and hard work. "These misogynist males should not be identified with any particular party," she remarked.
The TMCP has promised to address any verified allegations seriously. Meanwhile, Haldar continues to advocate for addressing these issues within her own party and beyond.
