Suspended Sub-Inspector and Two Others Arrested in Ballia Extortion Racket Case

Three individuals, including a former officer from the Korantadih police outpost in Ballia, surrendered at a Varanasi court. They are accused of operating an extortion racket along the UP-Bihar border in the Narhi police station area. A police official confirmed that all three have been placed in judicial custody for 14 days.

Suspended sub-inspector Rajesh Kumar Prabhakar, along with Praveen Rai alias Golu and Chandan Yadav alias Tanman, surrendered at the Anti-Corruption Court in Varanasi. This was confirmed by Vikrant Vir, Superintendent of Police in Ballia. The case involves 29 accused individuals, including 24 named suspects and five others identified during the investigation.

Extortion Racket Uncovered

On July 25, Deputy Inspector General of Police Vaibhav Krishna from the Azamgarh Range informed reporters about the case. He stated that the Additional Director General of Police, Varanasi Zone, and Deputy Inspector General of Police, Azamgarh, had dismantled an extortion racket targeting vehicles. Two policemen and sixteen middlemen were arrested as part of this operation.

The investigation led to the arrest of Narhi police station in-charge Panne Lal. Consequently, all personnel from the Korantadih police post and Narhi police station were suspended. This action was part of a broader effort to address corruption within the police force.
