Pics: Sushma Singh sworn in as new CIC

New Delhi, Dec 19: Sushma Singh, the newly appointed Chief Information Commissioner, was sworn in by Pranab Mukherjee and Rashtrapati Bhavan today.

A panel, comprising Prime MInister Manmohan Singh, Law MInister Kapil Sibal, and Sushma Swaraj, took the decision unanimously. 64 year old Singh, a former IAS officer, is the second woman to be appointed as CIC after Deepak Sandhu.

She began her career as an IAS officer in 1972 from the Jharkhand cadre. Her previous profiles include former secretary to the Government of India, Secretary in the MInistry of Information and Broadcasting,
Singh became an Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission on September 23, 2009. She had retired from IAS on May 31, 2009.

She is a former Secretary to the Government of India and belongs to the Jharkhand cadre. She had joined IAS in 1972.

Singh has served as a Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. She has also served as the Secretary to the Government of India in the Ministry of Panchayati Raj and also in the Ministry for the Development of the North Eastern Region (DONER).
