Amit Shah tweeted "Saddened by the news of the demise of our senior leader Sushil Kumar Modi. Today, Bihar has lost a great pioneer of politics forever".

Diving in to the past, Shah said "From ABVP to BJP, Sushil ji has adorned many important positions in the organization and government. His politics was dedicated to the interests of the poor and the backwards. The void that has emerged in Bihar politics due to his demise cannot be filled for a long time. In this hour of grief, the entire BJP stands with his bereaved family. May God give a place to the departed soul in his lotus feet"

Former Bihar CM and Rashtriya Janata-Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Yadav also shared condolences through a post. Lalu Yadav said "received the sad news of the demise of our friend brother Sushil Modi from the time of Patna University Students Union...for the last 51-52 years. He was a combative, dedicated social and political person. May God grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family to bear the loss".

West Bengal CM and TMC Supremo Mamata Banerjee also prayed for the departed soul. "Sorry to hear about the sad demise of Shri Sushil Kumar Modi, former Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family & friends. May the departed soul rest in peace," Mamata Banerjee said.
