Survey: PM Modi's Approval Rating Skyrockets To 75% In February

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's approval rating saw a significant increase, rising to 75 per cent in February from 65 per cent in the last wave recorded in September 2023, the Ipsos IndiaBus PM Approval Rating Survey said.

Notably, certain cities and demographics gave PM Modi exceptionally high ratings for his performance as the Prime Minister. In the north zone, his approval stood at 92 per cent, while in the east and west zones, it was 84 per cent and 80 per cent, respectively. Tier 1 cities also showed strong approval, at 84 per cent, along with Tier 3 cities at 80 per cent.

Among age groups, the 45+ category gave him the highest rating at 79 per cent, followed by the 18-30 years group at 75 per cent and the 31-45 years group at 71 per cent. Socio-economic categories also displayed varying levels of approval, with Sec B at 77 per cent, Sec A at 75 per cent, and Sec C at 71 per cent. Furthermore, females rated him at 75 per cent, slightly higher than males at 74 per cent. Full-time parents or homemakers gave him a high approval rating of 78 per cent, while employed individuals, both part-time and full-time, rated him at 74 per cent.

However, the survey noted slightly lower ratings in certain segments. In metros, the approval rating was recorded at 64 per cent, and in Tier 2 cities, it stood at 62 per cent. Self-employed individuals gave him a rating of 59 per cent, the lowest among the groups surveyed. The south zone recorded the lowest approval rating for PM Modi, at 35 per cent.

On the survey report, Parijat Chakraborty, Country Service Line Leader, Public Affairs, Corporate Reputation, ESG and CSR, Ipsos India, said, "Some of the big bang initiatives like opening of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya (92 per cent approval rating in north zone validates it), temple in the UAE, taking a stand on global issues independent of the influence of any Western power, initiatives in space, hosting the G20 Summit successfully in India, and giving a fillip to Make in India, have all contributed to the spike in the approval ratings of the Prime Minister."

The survey indicates that the areas where the Modi government has excelled primarily include education, sanitation, cleanliness, and the healthcare system. In other domains, the government has managed to pass but not excel.

Respondents' ratings for various sectors were as follows: pollution and environment (56 per cent), poverty (45 per cent), inflation (44 per cent), unemployment (43 per cent), and corruption (42 per cent).

"The initiatives around health, education, sanitation, gender, skill development etc. are paying off and providing strong tail-winds in an already positive environment," Chakraborty claimed.

The Ipsos IndiaBus is a monthly nationwide omnibus survey conducted by Ipsos India, covering diverse topics and incorporating multiple client surveys. It utilizes a structured questionnaire and involves over 2,200 respondents from households categorized into Sec A, B, and C. These respondents represent adults of both genders across all four zones of the country.
