Supreme Court To Pronounce Verdict On Article 370
The Supreme Court of India on Monday will pronounce its verdict on the petitions challenging the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) D Y Chandrachud, along with four other senior judges namely Justices S K Kaul, Sanjeev Khanna, B R Gavai, and Surya Kant will pronounce the decision reserved after a 16-day hearing against the Centre's August 2019 move.
The Apex court started hearing the pleas challenging the abrogation of Article 370 on August 2, 2023, and after 16 days, the court reserved its verdict on September 5, which will be pronounced on December 11.

Ahead of the judgement day, the Centre directed the local administration to deploy adequate security arrangements to ensure peace in the valley. A senior police official said, "We (Police) are duty-bound to ensure that peace prevails in the valley under all circumstances." The authorities have also imposed section 144 as a precaution. According to the reports, internet service has also been snapped in some parts of Jammu and Kashmir, and police have issued guidelines for social media users to stop the spread of any hatred content.
"If you receive a message containing objectionable content, then report it immediately to the nearest police station or police post with a screenshot and detailed information," the guidelines shared by Police read.
What is the Abrogation of Article 370?
In 2029, the Narendra Modi government decided to end the special status of Jammu and Kashmir by repealing the provisions under Article 370. The state was also granted a status of "on par with other states/UTs of the country."
