New Delhi, Jan 13: A day after senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy claimed that Shashi Tharoor allegedly stayed with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar in Dubai, the Delhi Police's Special Investigation Team (SIT) is now learnt to be going through all the evidence it has in connection with the Sunanda Pushkar murder case before interrogating the Congress MP.

Tharoor-Tarar affair angle resurfaces
The SIT is once again going through the year old statement of senior journalist and Sunanda's close friend Nalini Singh's statement in which the latter had reportedly said that a day before Sunanda's death, the Sunanda had called her to tell that Tharoor wanted to divorce her so that he could get married to Tarar, for the fourth time.

Singh had also said that the relations between Tharoor and Tarar had become so close that they wanted to get married soon after the Lok Sabha elections 2014. Sunanda had also reportedly told Nalini that in June, 2013, Tharoor spent three days with Tarar in Dubai.

Earlier on Monday, taking a dig at Shashi Tharoor, Swamy tweeted, "When Tharoor allegedly spent three night with suspected ISI compliant journalist Tarar, he was India's Union Minister. That is like Profumo."

Swamy reportedly said so by referring to a report on a news channel which suggested that "a witness has revealed that Tharoor and Tarar stayed together in Dubai for three days." Clearly, Swamy was quoting Nalini Singh's statement given to Delhi Police.

Meanwhile, Delhi Police chief BS Bassi said, soon Congress MP Shashi Tharoor might be questioned in connection with his wife Sunanda Pushkar's murder.

"I know Tharoor is in Delhi. Our SIT (Special Investigation Team) is working on the case, and if they require they will call him (Tharoor) soon," Bassi told the media.

Tharoor reached Delhi on Sunday from Kerala, where he was undergoing ayurvedic rejuvenation. Pushkar, 52, was found dead in a luxury hotel here Jan 17, 2014.

Police have said she was poisoned to death. In response to a question, Bassi said Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar, whose friendship with Tharoor had reportedly led to a row between him and Pushkar, may also be questioned if needed.

Pushkar was found dead just days after an open spat on Twitter drew attention on the couple's personal life and Tarar.
