Digvijaya Singh Discusses Emotional Reactions to Jammu and Kashmir Special Status Resolution

Congress leader Digvijaya Singh remarked on Thursday that the uproar over special status in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly illustrates the consequences of playing with emotions. On Wednesday, the assembly passed a resolution urging the Centre to devise a constitutional mechanism to restore the region's former special status. This decision was welcomed by political parties in the valley but sparked protests from the main opposition, BJP, which demanded its reversal.

Singh, when questioned about the situation in Indore, stated, "When you play with emotions, such incidents happen." His comments came amid criticism from the BJP towards Rahul Gandhi for showcasing a red-coloured copy of the Constitution during rallies. Singh mocked the BJP by saying, "The ruling party has decided the colour of the Constitution as well."

Political Dynamics and Reactions

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis accused Gandhi of attempting to garner support from urban Naxals and anarchist elements by holding a red book. This accusation added another layer to the ongoing political tensions between Congress and BJP. The exchange highlights the deep-seated rivalry between these two major political entities in India.

In another development, former Madhya Pradesh minister Deepak Joshi returned to the BJP from Congress. Singh mentioned that he had spoken with Joshi just a day before his switch. They had discussed plans for his future role within Congress. This switch underscores the fluid nature of political allegiances in Indian politics.

Congress Party Developments

The state Congress executive committee recently saw an infusion of new members, reflecting a generational shift. Singh noted that this inclusion of younger members is positive for the party's future. The 177-member committee is led by Jitu Patwari and was announced on October 26, ten months after Patwari became state Congress chief.

The committee comprises 17 vice-presidents, 71 general secretaries, 16 executive committee members, 33 permanent invitees, and 40 special invitees. This diverse composition aims to strengthen Congress's organisational structure and enhance its strategic capabilities in upcoming political challenges.

The recent developments in Jammu and Kashmir and within Congress highlight ongoing political shifts in India. These events underscore how emotional issues can influence political discourse and lead to significant changes within parties. As political dynamics continue to evolve, both regional and national parties must navigate these challenges strategically.
